| Plot Summary of Unfinished Symphony |
"Melody believed that her mother died in a car crash. Then her best friend sends her a magazine clipping with a picture of a woman who looks remarkably like Mom. Afraid that her mother has faked her death or has amnesia, Melody leaves her new home in Cape Cod to search for her mother in California. As she searches, Melody fears that her mother may not remember her, or worse, that she may not want to remember her."

" Unfinished Symphony is the sequel to Heart Song. In Unfinished Symphony Melody goes to find her mother. Upon getting to L.A she finds her mother and makes her tell her why she left. Her mother, Haille Logan, finally lets her stay with her. She does not stay for very long because she is almost raped by her mother's agent, and her boyfriend and distant cousin Cary calls to tell her that Uncle Jacob is dead. She goes back to Provincetown, Cape Cod and has to go live with Grandma Olivia, who she despises. Olivia tells her that she wants her to limit her contact with Cary. Melody finally gives in, but schemes with her friend Teresa Patterson for an evening with Cary. They end up making love.
Then just after grandma has a stroke Melody finds out that grandma had put Cary's twin sister, Laura, in an institution. She takes Cary up to the institution, only to find out that Laura is dead. Saddened, they go back to Cape Cod to find out that grandma had slipped into a coma. She dies two days later. Cary and Melody finally are together."
