Plot Summary of Night Over Water
"In September 1939, just a few days after World War II starts, a Boeing 314 flying boat, the Pan American Flying Clipper, takes off on the last civilian flight out of Europe for years to come. Among its passengers are an English Nazi and his eccentric family, a feuding brother and sister fighting over the future of their family business, a charming and handsome thief who can speak in many different accents and blend in with any crowd, and a prominent Jewish scientist. Little do these passengers know that a group of hijackers has kidnapped the wife of the Clipper's engineer, and will force him to bring the plane to an unscheduled splashdown in order to kidnap one of the passengers. It's a bygone era in flight, when pilots flew low over the Atlantic, hunting the wind to find the path of least resistance, to conserve precious fuel. The story is told from many points of view.
