Plot Summary of I Never Promised You a Rose Garden
"Deborah Blau is a teenaged girl with schizophrenia. When she was five, she underwent traumatic surgery, during which she created the Kingdom of Yr in her mind. Though Yr was once a wonderful place for Deborah to seek refuge in, the gods of Yr have become oppressive over the years. Now, they control Deborah. The book chronicles Deborah's stay in a mental institution, where she struggles to overcome her illness with the help of her fantastic therapist, Clara Fried."
