| Plot Summary of The Charm School |
"Isabella is the oldest daughter of a wealthy Boston family, overlooked and underrrated by her family, because of her looks, her intelligence, and a penchant for bookishness. Her clothes don't fit herwell, she is awkward socially--and she feels that she is dismissed pretty muvch, even in her own family. She is the object of jokes if she is noticed at all. Her siblings are gorgeous, accomplished in society, sure to make brilliant matches. One day she meeets Ryan, captain of a merchant clipper ship, outrageous dresser, self-assured entrepreneur...and she offers herself for hire as a translator and accountant aboard ship. From this simple quest for work begins her transformation from gauche maiden to a self-assured young woman. Love, too, finds her, as she blossoms among new friends, as she travels with Ryan to Brazil...Boston will find her a different person when she returns home!"
