Plot Summary of Women's Journals of the Westward Journey
"This book is about the women who traveled on the Oregon Trail. Their husbands were farmers (for the most part) who wanted to get free land in Oregon, and some wanted to split off onto the trail to California to get gold. There were also tradesmen (blacksmiths, wagon makers, etc., for example), and there were also a few doctors. Indian attacks weren't as frequent in the first two stages of emigration, but after 1860 (or thereabouts), there were some Indian attacks. One of the women whose journals were published had a problem with Indian attacks once. "
