At six years of age, a drug lord had Jason Trayhern kidnapped and physically and mentally tortured until his father's comrades rescued him. As a result of the trauma, he is not close to his father and keeps everyone at a distance, even the people in his squadron. Two of his co-pilots requested a transfer because they didn't want to work with someone who wasn't a team player. Rather than give Jason a dishonorable discharge he transfers to another squadron, the 2-101 Aviation Regiment of Apaches at Fort Campbell.
Jason knows this is his last chance to do well in the military but he is afraid his new boss Annie Dazen will be prejudiced about his past, especially the drug scandal he was involved in. However, Jason learns that Annie doesn't judge anyone's past and she treats him the way she does everyone else. As a result, he opens up to her and they start to fall in love but when they get transferred to Afghanistan, Jason is injured and loses his memory. Annie hopes that with time and patience, the man she loves will come back to her.
FIRST BORN is a heartwarming and deeply moving story about the power of redemption and the strength of love to heal all wounds. It is great being reunited with Morgan and Laura end seeing how the years treated them. Lindsey McKenna demonstrates in the novel how alternate medicine can work when other traditional treatments fail. This is a book that uplifts the spirit and warms the heart.
