His parents died in a boating accident in Lake Michigan in which most of the townsfolk of Fairy Cove feel his dad killed his mom. His acrimonious “Dear” Aunt Augusta Greer, the town's matriarchal leader, treats her nephew Ewan Lochlain and his younger sister Hallie like pariahs. When he turned eighteen, Ewan insured his sister was safe from his aunt before fleeing town vowing to return one day to confront his aunt and learn the truth.
Fifteen years later, Ewan is back, needing to know what really happened to his parents. He still regrets that he left behind Hallie and her best friend Cyd Callahan, the daughter of a drug addict prostitute though he believes he did the right thing. He knows Cyd thinks little of him for running away, but now he plans to stay and though she is unaware Cyd is part of his plans. Cyd suffers nightmares that the Night Man is coming for her, which Ewan believes is a repressed memory. As he seeks the truth and feels she is the key, Ewan and Cyd fall in love, but nasty Augusta has her own agenda that excludes her nephew and the whore's daughter.
This contemporary romantic suspense is an exciting tale that will have the audience wonder what happened to the Lochlains. The story line is fun to follow as Cyd and Ewan add respect and trust to their attraction, which finally blossoms into love. Though Angela is too much the queen of ugliness, readers will enjoy this solid tale supplemented by a secondary romance.
