When the Japanese invented synthetic blood and made it available to the general public, vampires came out of the closet, proclaiming their existence on global television. Louisiana waitress Sookie Stackhouse met vampire Bill in the bar and they became romantically involved. She was elated that she was unable to read his mind, but when he hurt her she dumped him.
When she sees Bill's boss Eric running around naked, kindhearted Sookie takes him into her home. She learns that a witch has placed a curse on Eric because he is in the way of their plan to take over the Shreveport supernatural community. They search for Eric while Sookie keeps him safe from the witches.
Meanwhile Sookie's brother negotiates a deal for Sookie's caretaker services but suddenly vanishes for no reason. Worried about her missing sibling, Sookie becomes frenzied when she learns that the witches are enhancing their power by drinking vampire blood. She must confront these dangerous deadly fiends if she is to rescue her sibling and keep Eric safe.

"In this fourth book in the series, Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress, ends up with an unwanted houseguest. Driving home from work one night she sees a man running in the woods, it turns out to be Eric Northman, the vampire Sheriff of Area 5. He is half-naked, feezing, and cannot remember her. Sookie takes him home and contacts his partners who inform her that witches have cursed Eric and have put up a reward poster for anyone who has seen him. They want him dead so they can take over his business, money and assets.
Well, not only does Eric not remember Sookie, but he doesn't remember himself, and Sookie has a hard time resisting someone who needs her.
The Werewolves, new shapeshifters, and some witches become involved to help out and keep the other witches out of their territory.

"This is the fourth Sookie Stackhouse book. Sookie is a telepathic waitress in a small town - everyone knows what she can do, but no one really wants to think about it very much. Sookie is now very aware of the many different types of magical creatures living in and around her town. In this book, Eric, a vampire she knows, turns up with amnesia. A group of witches have come to the town, and one of them cursed Eric because he didn't do what she wanted. Now the witches are looking for him, and Sookie is stuck caring for him while she tries to restore his memory and figure out what's going on before she ends up dead. Protecting herself and her friends will involve working with both the vampires and the werewolves. Unfortunately, the witches also have shapeshifters in their ranks, so everyone has to be doubly careful."
