"When disaster hit New York with the Trade Centers being struck, the city and the world looked to people for support and the author of this book was one of the people that was looked upon. He was the city of New York's 40th police commisioner and this book details his life. It begins with him being a trouble maker and even a high school drop-out and going on to join the Army. In the Army he learned discipline and training and became a black belt in karate. It then chronicles his ambition to join New Yorks finest. He was one of the oldest people to join the NYPD at 31, but in a short time he became detective and worked his way up to becoming the warden at one of the toughest prisons in the world, Rikers Island. It tells of his relationships with the great officers around him and with Mayor Rudolph Guiliani and of the Mayors decision to appoint him commisioner. This book was finished the morning of September 11, 2001 just before the Trade Centers were hit. Kerik added a final chapter after this which gave details of the disaster. He walks the reader through what he was doing and what the city did to move past this disaster. This book showcased what a great leader and police officer is truly like."
