Plot Summary of The House Next Door
"Walter and Colquitt Kennedy are a middle aged couple who live in a nice suburb. The plot of land next door to them has been empty because nobody has been able to construct a house that will fit the strange layout. Kim is a young, brilliant architect with a vision and the house is erected. The neighbors marvel at its magnificence. This novel chronicles Colquitt's observations as three families move next door and each is destroyed in one way or another by the house itself. After a while, the house does not limit its terror to only the residents and it begins to corrupt families in the neighborhood. Colquitt and Walter become determined to keep anyone from ever going near that house again even if it means becoming ousted by their peers and doing the unthinkable as well."
Alicia, Resident Scholar

"In a wealthy, old-fashoned suburb of Atlanta, a young architect decides to built an ultra-modern house. Almost immediatly bad luck seems to befall the builders and the architect. Colquette and Walter Kennedy have lived next door to the site of the new house for years, and though they are not happy with the new addition to the neighborhood, they welcome their new neighbors. However, at the housewarming party, a tragedy occurs that causes the new neighbors to move immediately.

Not long after, a new couple moves in, and the inhabitants are driven to acts of madness and destruction. Although Colquette doesn't believe in haunted houses, she comes to realize that the house is not normal. When a third family moves in, the Kennedys once again witness the house turn on its owners, and play upon their weaknesses until they turn on eachother. Then the same behavior occurs throughout the neighborhood, and the architect who built the house begins to lose his sanity. The Kennedys decide that something must be done to warn prospective buyers about the house, and they risk their lives to do just that. "
