| Plot Summary of The Treason of the Ghosts |
"Medieval sleuth Hugh Corbett is dispatched to the town of Melford by his king,Edward I, to solve some bizarre killings. Corbett is the Keeper of the King's seal and his companions are Ranulf-atte-Newgate and a groom called Chanson. Five years earlier a local Knight was hanged for the murders of several women. Now the killing has begun again. Two more girls of the town have been garrotted.
Was Sir Roger Chapelys innocent, despite overwhelming evidence and witnesses? One man stood up in court and defended Chapelys, a poacher whom the jury chose not to believe. This man disappeared shortly after the execution and his widow believes he was murdered. There are other brutal killings in the town; the miller, who was foreman of the jury, is decapitated and another jury member beaten to death in his own barn. "
