Plot Summary of Cold Sassy Tree
"This small town in Georgia is turned upside-down by the quick marriage between the general store manager and a Yankee woman half his age. His grandson, the young Will Tweedy tells this story about changing times in his hometown, daring to wonder about the events the adults want to keep under wraps. Will grows up as he witnesses his grandfather's happiness and the town's modernization."
Jessica Marler, Resident Scholar

"Before his grandmother is even cold in her grave, Will Tweedy's grandpa gets married, and the whole community is turned upside down. Grandpa Blakeslee married Love Simpson, and everyone thinks now that she just wants his money. Will likes Love, and he has a hard time deciding how he feels.

Eventually Love and Grandpa really do fall in love. Will discovers he has feelings for a mill girl, and his family is outraged. He learns to drive a car, and continues to miss his friend who died of lockjaw.

After a failed robbery attempt, Grandpa Blakeslee gets very sick. Miss Love has a secret to tell him and the family, but Grandma keeps getting sicker and may not make it. Will Miss Love get to tell him before it's too late, or will Grandpa get so sick he dies?"

Rachael High, Resident Scholar

He overhears his grandpa and new wife, Mrs.Love, talking many times, and sees Mrs. Love kiss another man in broad daylight! His grandpa teaches Will to love people for who they are.
