| Plot Summary of Jonathan Livingston Seagull |
"Some dance to a beat of a different drummer. Jonathan Livingston Seagull flies through the air far above the rest of his flock. This fine seagull knows there is more about himself, and more to life, than what the rest of the flock sees. And at every opportunity, he seeks it out. He flies in twists and turns and finds joy in his life where his companions simply drone on in their same ways day after day. Great themes about individuality and freedom. A quick and easy read with plenty of black and white seagull photos. "

"The whole story is about a seagull. In the beginning of the story it describes how the main character; "Jonathon" lives with the other seagulls and how he is supposed to live by the rules of the flock. Jonathon breaks the rules of the flock by practicing flying, going higher and faster than any seagull has ever flown. At one point in his practicing flying faster, he nearly crashes into one of the other seagulls and gets banished for disobeying the rules of the flock. Because he keeps up his own practices there are other seagulls who begin to follow. As a result Jonathon becomes a teacher. One day one of his students, Sully, flies too fast and almost kills another young gull. To escape hitting the other younger gull he crashes into a cliff and instantly transcends into another form of living, flying being. "
