Bell Black knows who robbed the jewelry store and murdered the owner. She confronts him with his crime after she hides the jewel he dropped. She asks him to give himself up before she turns him in, but he kills her after she refused to give him the diamond with his fingerprint on it. The culprit makes it seem as if she had an accident while climbing up a ladder to get inventory.
Harrison Black is shocked to learn his Great Aunt Belle has died and that she left her candle making shop At Wick's End to him along with River's Edge, the shopping complex where the store is located. Almost from the very beginning he doesn't think Belle's death is an accident and since the police can't be bothered, Harrison sets up a trap that almost makes him the killer's next victim.
Before Harrison got his inheritance he was a drifter going from job to job living to find a career that satisfied him. When he inherits AT WICKS END he learns the business and finds for the first time in his life he's contented. He's motivated to learn the ins and outs of the business and the audience sees a maturity in him that wasn't there at the beginning of the story. Tim Myers' new amateur sleuth series is a smashing successful debut.
