| Plot Summary of The Golden Spur |
"Jonathan Jaimison leaves small town Ohio for big New York city to search for his biological father and, ultimately, his true life calling. In Greenwich Village, he uncovers clues to his late mother's spicy secret past, as well as a cast of has-beens who are more than ready to claim Jonathan as their own (for purely selfish reasons, of course). As Jonathan stumbles through the book in search of his real father, Powell leads us on a riotous romp through the land of geriatric bohemia. Aging writers and burnt-out painters see a remedy for their dying careers in this naive young blood. Each potential father, however, must search a past clouded with alcohol and excess for that one memory of youthful indiscretion with Jonathan's mother, a forgettably mousy secretary. The sights and sounds of Greenwich Village nightlife are alive, and so is Powell's trademark satire of the art and publishing world. "
