Plot Summary of Fathers, Sons, and Brothers, Book One
"The Civil War has been on for over a year. Nathan marries his sweetheart Sarah on the 27th, then volunteers to fight for the Union on July 28th. He musters in volunteers for the Maine State Militia, and by mid-August, they are on the way to the battle front . . . leaving their loved ones behind to fight the good fight.
