Plot Summary of The Ship Who Sang
"Helva was born deformed, and her governement decides to give her a chance to do something. so they create a spaceworthy scout ship for her to control, literally as she was connected with the ship almost as if it was an artificial arm or leg. Such ships are paired with 'brawn' - a normal human to keep them company."
Rachael, Resident Scholar

"Helva was born with a severely disabled body but a great brain. As is the custom in the society in which she lives her brain was put into a shell and she was trained to become the controls of a space ship. Just using brains and her voice she is the main partner in a two people crew, her partner, Nyal, is the brawn. The two are destined to solve many problems and save a planet or two. Helva does not have the ability to excel in many arts and crafts but she loves to sing and has a beautiful voice. McCaffrey reaches into the hearts of her readers with this character and it is well worth reading even if you are not usually a sci-fi."
Penny , Resident Scholar
