Plot Summary of Daughter of Strangers
"Amy is a thirteen-year-old girl who lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Her parents take her unwillingly to an archaeological dig in the Barrenlands. She is an adopted child whose parentage is part Dene. They are digging at a place supposed to have been the temporary home of the ancient Chippawayan natives.   She hates the digging and wishes that she were back in Ottawa for the summer. As she sits on a knoll above the site where her parents and little brother Bobby are digging she sees a herd of caribou coming towards her. She rises and begins to run away from them when suddenly they surround her and then they pass her. She sees native hunters ahead of her and then finds herself confronted by them. This begins a very frightening time for her. She has been transported back in time when the Chippawayan natives hunted with spears and uses flaked stones as knives. The native hunters debate killing her, as she is a daughter of strangers and might be harmful to them. Because they believe that she called the caribou to her for their hunt they spare her life and she lives with them for four months. When she finally escapes them she runs back to where she went back through time and find her family still there. There is a surprise ending and for those who love time travelling it is an excellent read and the reader gets an excellent education in the lives of these ancient people."
