"A very mysterious death takes place in the Louvre. A curator apparently is murdered, but in the few minutes available to him before he actually succumbs to his death, he manages to make certain arrangements which provide clues as to his murderer(s) - by positioning himself a certain way and scribbling puzzling words. A renowned academic is summoned to the Louvre to make sense of the crime scene, but soon finds himself framed for the murder. Joined by a French government employee who is revaled to have a relationship to the victim, he starts a suspenseful flight from the authorities, moving from various locations of France to England and beyond. All the time he tries to make sense of a puzzle, which is something of universal significance to religion and humanity in general."

"The book opens at the scene of a murder, where the curator of the Lourve Museum in France is found dead. His body is positioned to resemble the DaVince Man. It is later discovered that the victim, in his last moments of life, positioned himself that manner and left several clues for the investigators.
The "hero" in the story is an American college professor, well known for his study of religious icons and artifacts. He is summoned to the scene to help with the investigation. He was in Paris for a convention and was supposed to have met with the victim earlier that evening but the plans were cancelled.
The antagonist, the local police chief is somewhat put off by his "intrusion." Since the hero is the first to arrive at the scene, he immediately is tagged as a suspect. There are, however, other things that come in the investigation that would lead one to believe that he could be the murderer, though we the reader knows differently. The hero is quickly detained, but he escapes with the help of one of the detectives, who believes his alibi.

"Robert Langdon, famous Harvard historian, is in Paris, giving a lecture. He has an appointment with a Louvre curator who doesn't show up, and later that night finds out that the curator has been murdered.
He finds himself accused of the murder and teams up with French cryptologist Sophie Neveu. They find out that the late curator was a high ranking member of the Priory of Sion, a secret society protecting an ancient relic, hidden for centuries.
The two refugees have two tasks at hand: they have to run from the police, and simultaneously solve the puzzles leading to the Priory's secret to keep it from being lost forever."
