| Plot Summary of Mountaineers' Honor |
"Jarvis' fictional account of family clashes during the Civil War is a harrowing tale of conflicting opinions and principles of three West Virginia families converging in the hills from the Kanawha River to Little Sandy River. The patriarchs of three families, Nathan Martin, Joe Engle, and Tom Jarvis, all great great-grandfathers to Jarvis, find themselves and the members of their families split about the breaking of the Union that sent the nation spiraling into war. The three join separate sides, Joe and Tom fighting for the preservation of the Union and Nathan teaming up with the Confederacy. The novel follows the three throughout the battles and horrors of war. Amidst the cannon fire and gun blasts, each man learns what it means to fight for a cause and maintain their honor.
