Plot Summary of Big City Girl
"BIG CITY GIRL has been first published in 1951.

There are two main plots in this Faulkner style novel.

Joy is the wife of Neely Sewell who's just been caught and condemned after having challenged the Texas police force. Without any money left, Joy had no choice than to stay at the Sewell's farm with her in-laws. She's a no good girl dreaming of the enchanted life of the big cities. She tries to seduce Mitch, Neely's brother, who violently rejects her. Mitch has more important problems: it looks that the river will overflow because of the continuous rains and that the cotton crop will be lost. He's spending his days reinforcing the dykes.

Meanwhile, Neely Sewell is being transferred by car to the state penitentiary not so far from the family farm. He manages to escape by provoking an accident. After a car chase, he has no other choices than to jump into the river. Bitten by a rattlesnake, he will nonetheless try to reach the family farm with one single idea in mind: to kill Joy who's betrayed him. But will he survive the flood, the police forces looking for him and the poison that runs in his veins ?"
