|Plot Summary of The Portage to San Cristobal of A.H.|
|"It is 1979. A small band of Nazi hunters locate the 90-year-old ex-Fuhrer deep in the South American jungle. As they make their slow, tortuous way back to civilization, the narrative visits various concerned parties across the globe: a Russian doctor being questioned by the KGB about why he once declared the body in the Berlin bunker was not Hitler's, several fortune hunters who have monitored the radio transmissions from the jungle team and hope to intercept the "prize," a German jurist who is an expert on the legal aspects of handling the case of the genocidal mastermind should he ever be located, the obsessed Nazi hunter who sent the team out, a jungle native who is fascinated by the delicate elder being transported so carefully through his territory and joins the party. The prisoner seems to gather strength as his captors weaken and die; not certain they will get him safely out of the wild, or whether they can keep custody of him once the world realizes who they have and descends on them, they decide to try him there on the spot, and Hitler explains to them why he did what he did. This slim volume packs a wallop."
