In Boston, Jorie Morrison and Simon Grant react differently towards the announced engagement between their respective younger charges Lily Benton and James Wells though they feel the same about the upcoming marriage. Simon respects a vow he made to James' deceased dad to protect his son, the heir to Wells Enterprise and demands a prenuptial agreement that alienates the two folks in love. Jorie wisely holds her council though she believes things have happened too fast.
Simon blackmails Jorie into assisting him at least with his image by offering a large grant to Jorie's group that helps disadvantaged children with talent obtain scholarships. He also adds a piano for her impoverished protégé Darius Jackson. She reluctantly accepts. As Jorie and Simon come into close contact and fall in love, he has evidence that Simon's uncle is pulling a stock fraud that apparently implicates Lily's father.
Though the villains are too obvious and the “wrap up” to ingenuous, contemporary romance readers will enjoy this delightful tale because of the key cast. The lead pair feels the attraction, but both know she is way too passionate him, as he prefers logic. The secondary romantic duo provides immaturity yet hope for the future as they refuse to allow any barriers to hinder their plans. This quartet makes for a wonderful novel that the audience will value.
