Highly regarded Broadway actress Leigh Kendall believes life is great. She is at the acme of her stage career and is starring in a successful play and her personal life may even be at a higher peak because she loves her husband Logan Manning. On the whole, her life is perfect except for the expensive gifts from an unknown admirer whose “generosity” frightens her.
Logan purchases a country cottage, which he plans to convert into a love nest for them. Following a performance, Leigh is to meet her spouse at their dream home where she will see it for the first time. However, a blizzard leads to her being in a car accident and waking in a hospital. She also learns from the police that Logan has vanished and she is the prime suspect in his disappearance. Not willing to sit idly by, Leigh beings making inquiries into the activities of the man she loved only to find a façade that when removed is nothing like the man she cherished. With no one to turn to for help and unable to distinguish friend from foe, Leigh now struggles to remain alive.
This is definitely déjà vu as Judith McNaught is heading back to the New York Times best seller list with a powerful romantic suspense novel hat is superb. The exhilarating story line works on all levels as readers observe the transformation of Leigh from a loving elated individual into a frightened rabbit with no haven anywhere. Though somewhat different from her usual work, this powerful tale will remind the audience of the Goldie Hawn movie Deceived. Fans of romantic suspense will enjoy this delightful tale. It was well worth he long wait to read such an enthralling work by an author who keeps raising the bar with each book she writes.
