Plot Summary of Summer of the Danes
" Brother Cadfael is on his way on another errand for the Abbey of St. Peter and St. Paul in Shrewsbury. He is needed as an interpreter at meeting in a Welsh diocese (after all, Cadfael is Welsh). It seems simple enough and he is happy to be on the road once again. Not so fast, though. Word comes that a Danish fleet is fast approaching and at the same time, news of a young girl gone missing. A corpse is soon discovered, and we have, once again, a Brother Cadfael mystery in “Summer of the Danes.” Ellis Peters' 12th century
Benedictine monk is at his best in this episode, the 18th of the series. Before the Danish menace can be taken care of, Cadfael has to find the murderer. Using all the skills he possesses, Cadfael takes the reader on a nice roll.
