| Plot Summary of The Raven at the Foregate |
" In “The Raven at the Foregate,” the 12th Brother Cadfael mystery, we find the
venerable Benedictine brother embroiled in solving another murder. A young, albeit
zealous, priest has been assigned to the parish of Holy Cross, known as the Foregate. So
enthusiastic is he that he soon alienates most of his parish members, and when his body is
discovered in the millpond, not many care, he was so disliked. However, to Brother
Cadfael, this is murder, not acccidental death. Too, the struggle between King Stephen
and Empress Maud continues to rage and an agent of Maud's is suspected to be in
Shrewsbury (which is a Stephen town)--and the intrigue continues. It is up to Cadfael, the
former crusader, and his friend Sheriff Hugh Berenger to solve both cases. But first they
have to set a trap...."
