Wolfe manages to tie together the deaths of a college president and an Italian immigrant and performs one of his prodigious feats of questioning, one that is mentioned in many of the books in the series. There's a lot of snakes in Fer-de-Lance, including the fer-de-lance that gets delivered to Wolfe's door. This is the first Stout book, and so it's a little uneven in places, but still well worth reading for mystery fans.
