Plot Summary of Acqua Alta
"When he hears that Brett Lynch has been savagely beaten, Commissario Guido Brunetti of the Venice (Italy) police takes more than a professional interest. (Brett is the companion to famed opera singer Flavia Petrelli whom Donna Leon readers had met in her first novel, "Death at La Fenice." Shortly thereafter, a man's body is found, and a link to the assault is made, and the "conspiracy" grows, as only Leon can do. It's a conspiracy involving power, big money, the upper echelons of Venice society. Leon seems to be at her best when she is attacking corruption and "Acqua Alta" is no exception. Brunetti is one of my favorite police procedural characters.   "
