"Nights of Rodanthe opens with Adrienne, a mother in her fifties and Amy, her daughter. Adrienne, trying to help Amy cope with the death of her husband, decides to tell her about a story long ago, her story of loss. Adrienne's story begins at an inn in Rodanthe, North Carolina where her and Paul Flanner, both divorcees, find each other. Both reeling from the pain of their divorces, they find an outlet within one another. The novel takes you through the tumultuous relationship the two share in a weekend at the oceanfront town. At the end of the stay the two must part, planning to meet again, never knowing if it will truly happen. Through the telling of her own love loss, Adrienne hopes that she may help her daugher go on living without her beloved."
