| Plot Summary of The Peace War |
"After a short war that resulted in the release of biological weapons and much destruction, the Peace Authority stepped in with a new miracle weapon - the bobble. Bobbles are bubbles of stasis that the Peace Authority uses to prevent war through rather totalitarian means - they've banned many avenues of scientific research, for example, and various kinds of possessions. Fighting the PA are the Tinkers, a loosely-allied band of independent researchers who have found ways to evade the restrictions. They have Paul Hoehler, the man who invented the bobble and has spent fifty years trying to undo that work. He's getting old and frail, though, and needs an apprentice...and he's found one, in a very unlikely form. This is a classic of hard SF."
