"A young apprentice monk joins a pilgrimage to seek the legendary leader who will unite the kingdoms. Along the way he faces many situations that force him to discover within himself the meaning of truth: is it what he has been taught, what he sees happening before him, or what he believes? His arduous journey confronts him with danger from unscrupulous warlords, fanatic religious warriors, and finally a city ruled by female magicians, where the truth of his heritage is revealed. At every step he must make choices that are never black and white but only shades of murky grey, where to choose wrong might lead both he and his entire band of pilgrims to certain destruction.
