| Plot Summary of W.C. Fields and Me |
"As W. C. Fields' mistress during his later years, aspiring actress Carlotta Monti lived with the famous comedian for a number of years in his palatial Hollywood mansion. She offers some revealing and insightful glimpses at W. C. Fields, the private person. For example, she tells us that he sometimes slept on his billiard table and that he loved the sound of rain, finding its regular rhythm as soothing as a lullaby. Although, she says, Fields could be a tyrannical and even cruel despot at times, he was also a loving, compassionate, and generous man, although he took pains to hide that side of his personality. An accomplished juggler and comedian, Fields became one of Hollywood's greatest comedians and through sheer will and determination, as much as his great talents for comedy, he made a fortune in the competitive and ruthless world of entertainment not only once--but twice."
