Plot Summary of Sabriel
"Sabriel, an 18-year-old schoolgirl with minimal training in magic, recieves a cryptic message and some significant gifts from her father, Abhorsen. She must take up his duties, to put the dead to rest, in a world overrun with the undead. The real strength of this book lies in the detailed, fully-fleshed world and background; it's a great book for anyone who does roleplaying or gaming, and for anyone who just loves gothic or fantastic fiction."
Ivy, Resident Scholar

"An eighteen year-old is forced to find her father, who has dissappeared, to balance the forces of good and evil in the land."
Saria Arain, Resident Scholar

"A girl named Sabriel was born in the Old Kingdom a magical world full of mystery and danger, daughter of Abhorsen, the man sworn to put the dead to rest. He sends her to be raised in a boarding school over the boarder. Sabriel becomes a Charter Mage, and learns many of the symbols and spells. One night, when she is in her final year of school, a young woman of 18, she awaits her father's visit, only to be called to the main dormitories to find a dark shadow of a dead servent. It is a messenger from her father, giving her his sword and bells, the tools of his trade. Sabriel crosses the wall into the Old Kingdom, questing to find her father, whom she knows is in death, but not dead yet. On her quest, she endevors to find out more about herself and the world she now inhabits. She meets Touchstone, a young man that apears to be 18, who has been imprisoned in the form of a figurehead on a ship(though he is really about 218), and together they must face their fears, and defeat the evils that walk in death, and into the world of the living, who have been breaking the powerful charter stones that hold and protect theh Old Kingdom from total distruction. Not until later in the book does Sabriel find that she is in love with Touchstone, and that he is the prince of the Kingdom. A book about life and living, death and dying, sacifice, caring and love, taking, dominating and hate. It explores the world that so many of us wish to slip into, only to make us think, feel and live the lives of the characters."
Vanessa Vaughan, Resident Scholar

"Sabriel is a story about a middle aged girl, about 18 to mid 20's who lives in a world much like our own, except very primitive, and polluted and corrupt. By birth, she was given the power of necromancy, which gives her the ability to go into death. A very powerful advisary come back, and she is the only one who can stop him and his power for good."
Lindsey, Resident Scholar

"Girl loses father and goes into denial. She goes on a quest to find father and meets some rather interesting characters and maybe a love interest."
Wren Phillips, Resident Scholar

"Sabriel not only grows physically, but also mentally and she falls in love with touchstone. "
Ahna Aldred, Resident Scholar

"This book was mostly about the coming of age Sabriel and her search for her kidnapped father, Abhoreson. Along the way, she runs into Mogget and a love interest, Touchstone. On this adventure through the Old Kingdom, she runs into a Mordicant and risks everything to find her father once again. This a story of bravery and courage, love and loss, weakness and of strength."
Gabriele Wren, Resident Scholar

"Sabriel was just a school girl, just a school girl, until she learned of her fathers grave danger. With a sword and set of bells imbued with powerful magic, she sets out on a quest to find her father, subdue a growing evil in the land, but also to find who she really is."
Simon, Resident Scholar

"Sabriel is just a normal schoolgirl- except for her magical powers and the fact that her father is the Abhorsen, a necromancer sworn to keep the restless dead from entering life. Then one night, when Sabriel is awaiting her father's visit, a messenger comes instead, telling her that he is trapped and giving Sabriel the tools of her father's trade. She crosses the magical barrier of the Wall to save him, helped only by her father's bells, her own magical talent, and the sarcastic talking cat Mogget- and ends up on a quest to save the whole world from an ancient evil."
Emma, Resident Scholar

"This follows the book 'Lireal' in which Lireal, a daughter of the future seeing clayr has been sent on a mission the the Red Lake to rescue one Nicholas Sayer who, unbeknownst to them, is under the dominnion of the Necromancer Hedge who seeks, in turn, to unearth Orannis, a powerfull ancient tyrant imprisioned underground in two metal hemespheres that, when brought togeather, will unleash Orannis in all his ancient might. Togeather with her newfound companion, Sameth, the Prince of the old Kingdom, The Disreputable Dog, an old and mysterious free magic/charter magic being, and most of the way, Mogget, a free magic being bound in servitude to the Abhorsen in the shape of a cat, she seeks to stop them before Orannis is unleashed, and his chaos spread over the world."
Allanon, Resident Scholar
