| Plot Summary of Maneater: and Other True Stories of a Life in Infectious Diseases |
"The author, a specialist in "bugs and drugs," relates some of the case histories she has encountered in nearly three decades of identifying and fighting some of the more dire wee beasties that attack the human body. They range from flesh-eating strep and chicken pox (which can be fatal to some grownups) to worms in the brain and of course HIV. Some of her patients make it (though coming very close to the edge of mortality), and some don't. Though not the greatest prose stylist in the field of medical writing for laymen, Nagami is humane, compassionate, and very smart, and some of her cases read like detective stories."
David Loftus, Resident Scholar
