|Plot Summary of Going Under|
|"GOING UNDER is a book begun in 1949 and first published in 1972 in New-York.
1949. Twenty-six days of the life of the author who's got the opportunity to get some rest in a clinic for intellectuals in the forest near Leningrad. While Stalin is beginning to organize the second purge of the russian intellectuals, Lydia Chukovskaya "goes under" and remembers Stalin's first purge back in 1937, the arrest and the disappearance of her husband, a doctor who, according to the explanations given to her, was condemned to a ten years imprisonment in a camp. She goes for long walks into the snowy forests in the company of Bilibine, a writer who's just come back from Siberia, and an old Jewish poet who likes her to comment his work. But will the book she has been able to write during this quiet period be ever published ?
A book of one of the great ladies of the russian literature."
