|Plot Summary of Candid Confessions|
|"In 1998 the author, Patrick Maher, claims he met a nervous, unsettled man, Jack. The two men began talking and soon Jack was speaking of his life as an American expatriate. Jack, only wanting to forget his past, told the author he was ready to thow his diary away. Curiosity got the best of the author, and he reached down into the garbage to retrieve the notebook. Maher compiles this mans diary into this book, which is a lascivious account of one man's journey. The book takes account of Jack's life over seas as an English teacher for Asian students. His sexual conquests are raw and disturbing and motivate him throughout the entire book. His search for inner peace only find Jack to be a deeply disturbed man with no morals or respect for women or himself. He countlessly goes from woman to woman in vivid, and sometimes painfully graphic, detail.
Although this book was not something I would normally read, the autor contacted me nearly two years ago to read and review this book. Parts of this book are disturbing and graphic and made my skin just crawl. It did make me feel like I was reading this man, Jack's, diary and felt I was invading his privacy. I couldn't help wonder if this was an elaborate scheme to sell books or if the author himself hid behind a different name to tell his own story. Ulitmately I have one "Candid Confession" of my own. I couldn't put this book down until I turned the last page and am still somehow haunted by thoughts of Jack and wondering where and how he is. For a shocking, yet stragely life changing book... I would have to say I would highly recommend this one."
