| Plot Summary of The Unknown Errors Of Our Lives |
"The Unknown Errors of Our Lives by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
Paperback 267pp, US $13. This book is a collection of nine stories, all exploring the in-between space occupied by first-generation immigrants. These set of stories mostly have characters born in India and then migrating to the United States. The inevitable clash -- of the two cultures, of the two belief systems and of the two very different philosophies is what Divakaruni exploits to great effect in these stories. Almost all of them are written in first person (or close third) and thus give the reader a feeling of having known these characters intimately. Ms. Divakaruni, who herself was born in India and now resides in San Francisco, knows both the worlds well and is careful not to take sides. Her great skill in crafting these stories, and in being a great storyteller is what makes these stories memorable and a pleasure to read.
