| Plot Summary of Plainsong for Caitlin |
"Caitlin and her older sister Rebecca live in New Bedford, Massachusetts, in 1872. When their father and Rebecca's fiance are lost at sea, they are left all alone in the world. Rebecca answers an ad to become a mail-order bride in Nebraska. Caitlin is the one that falls in love with Nate, but he marries Rebecca out of a sense of obligation. Caitlin knows she can never be with Nate but she still loves him."
