Newlyweds William Monk & Hester Latterly once again are solving crimes in England's Victorian Era. The reader is given a view not only of crime detection, but disease infested sickrooms. Many twisting plots are unearthed, including missing hospital drugs and blackmail; before the mystery of a beautiful widow abandoning the prospect of a loving marriage and financial security is solved in a crowded London courtroom.
