"Nichols, best known for her role of Lt.Uhura in the 60's television show "Star Trek" and the subsequent six theatrical films, takes the reader through her fascinating life. She details the early years as a struggling dancer, meeting the famous, being a part of the cast of "Porgy and Bess," and her breakthrough on "Trek." Miss Nichols covers her many romances with several well-known celebrities, one of whom was "Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry. The author also adds fuel to the fire about cast member William Shatner (Capt. Kirk). Miss Nichols skillfully, as the title suggests, takes the reader on a journey of her life that is more than just the "glorified telephone operator in space" of which she is most associated."
