| Plot Summary of Zapatista |
"The plot is based upon the 1994 Indian revolt in Chiapas, Mexico. An American on sabbatical is swept up in the struggle by being at the wrong place at the wrong time. He works at escaping the danger but circumstances continue to draw him in. When he is finally able to accomplish his goal, he realizes escape is not what he wants or needs. The people's revolution is seen through his eyes, giving the reader a valid point of reference. It is a dramatic story accurately depicting the Zapatista revolution. Although the book provides insight into the human drama of the repressed Mayans, it does not preach, but instead rewards the reader with a page-turning action adventure and allows the reader an opportunity to reach profound conclusions."
