In Yorkshire Falls, New York, widow Raina Chandler is rushed to the hospital with an apparent heart attack that turns out to be indigestion. Her two oldest sons live locally and rush to their mother's side when they hear of her emergency. She fails to correct their misconception about her health. The third son Roman is overseas as a foreign correspondent, but returns as soon as he learns of his mother's illness. Her three bachelor sons ask Raina what they can do to foster her recovery. She replies “Grandbabies”.
Because he already sacrificed his life for his family, the two younger brothers agree that the oldest is exempt from a coin flip to determine who gets married and has children. The middle child wins the toss leaving Roman to find a wife. He learns Charlotte Bronson is back in town having opened up a boutique. She is the only girl to reject him back in high school, but this time he plans to learn why if she tries to send him packing again. Extremely attracted then, now they fall in love, but she needs a stay at home spouse and he needs to wander the globe.
Once the readers recover from Raina's hiding the truth about herself, the audience will appreciate this warm contemporary romance. The three siblings are fine characters with distinctive personalities so that the reader can discern whose whom among Raina's boys. The relationship between Roman and Charlotte is a delight to observe as it heats up the story line. Fans will enjoy the BACHELOR and look forward to the remaining two Chandler tales.
