| Plot Summary of About a Boy |
"Will is a thirty something with no career and no stable relationships to his name. He's scared of commitment and of children, probably because he hasn't learned to grow up yet. Marcus is a twelve year old boy who is trapped in the body of middle aged man. He sings Joni Mithcell in public without knowing it and does't know which jeans are cool to wear. Thrust into eachother's world, the man teaches the boy about how to be a cool kid, and the kid lets the guy know the value of filial relations."

"Nick Hornby's “About a boy” is a gentle story that centers around the developing relationship between Marcus, a twelve-year-old boy trapped in a forty-year-old mind, and Will, a 36-year-old philanderer with the emotional development of a teenager. As their relationship progresses, Will helps Marcus enjoy life while he comes to terms with a family crisis, while Marcus helps will deal with his commitment phobia. "
