As the main character goes into the woods/forest to commit suicide, he finds a mysterious and extremely intelligent dog who it seems he has an almost telepathic connection with, as there is something in each of them the other needs and this dog seems to "talk" him out of his previous plans.
This dog is also mysteriously drawn to a seemingly mousy, quiet, introverted, mistreated young woman they meet in town and end up rescuing her from a rapist. She, in turn, ends up being intertwined in their lives as they all try to stay alive running and hiding from an organization/scientific lab (which wants to continue its experiments and studies on the "creatures" it has created) which has created two creatures (dogs), one loving and kind, the other vicious and murderous, both with higher than normal intelligence for mere animals.
The vicious dog creation has torn apart, mutilated, and many, many people, including most of the doctors/scientist who created it, but it cannot be located as it hides in the forests surrounding the community.

In a military lab, 2 creatures are created using modern bio-engineering techniques. One a marvel of humanities potential--and the other a terrible monster.

This is a story of a Dog and a "monster" that were lab experments. The Dog being the "good guy". They both escaped from the lab and the story told of their travels. The Dog found a home with a single man and the monster followed them every where they went because he wanted to kill the dog. This dog was very smart and could use the letters from a scrable game to spell words to tell his owner what he wanted. This is by far the best book I have ever read.

If you like yellow labradors, this is the book for you. You will never be able to look at another dog without thinking, "Does he know what I'm saying...thinking?" This is the type of book that I would classify as a 'pageturnner'. Once your hooked in, you'll be lost for 350 pages.

From a secret military lab come two different genetic experiments. One is a super-intelligent canine and the other a monster bent on destroying the other. They escape, and a trail of death follows. Only a burnt-out vet and the woman he loves can save the dog and put an end to the carnage.
