Plot Summary of The Education of Little Tree
"Little Tree describes life with his Cherokee grandparents and everything he learns from them. There are many adventures that the boy goes through and learns from. The beliefs and way of the Cherokee is beautifully described."
Emily, Resident Scholar

"Little Tree is the main protagonist of the story as well as the narrator. Little Tree is a 5 year old boy who lost his parents and is being raised by his Cherokee grandparents in the mountains. Little Tree is an interesting child. Instead of telling what he thinks, he observes what events are occurring around him and describes simply what he sees. He is very smart, respectful, always willing to learn from his grandparents and very inquisitive. Little Tree is important to the story because the entire book is about him, excluding several of his grandpa's vignettes.
The biography begins with Little Tree explaining that his parents both died when he was young and went to live with his Cherokee Indian grandparents. His grandparents, civilized yet still stereo typically conveyed at times, own a log cabin in mountains, away from town, where they raise Little Tree. Granpa, a tall older man shows Little Tree the ropes of the wilderness as he teaches him to listen to the forest and predict the actions of animals. Granma, on the other hand, reads to both Granpa and Little Tree and teaches them both book knowledge. "
