"This is book 2 of The Kingdoms. After Kedryn meets Taws, Messenger of Ashar, he comes away blind, but did not kill the Messenger. Now he must search for a way to cure his blindness. With the help of Wynett, Sister of the Light, he sets out on a journey that will take him into the netherworld. After returning with his sight restored, he finds that Taws has gone into the Kingdoms and set up his pawn to become King. This puts the Kingdoms on the brink of civil war."
