Kin Platt wrote the Hitman series as Kirby Carr in the 1970's. Did he ever explain where he found the idea of having the Hitman wear a hockey mask?

I've been wanting to read "SInbad and Me" for some time now and I'd buy an e-reader just to do so!!

THAT ROCKS that you are considering producing the old books as ebooks! So glad to hear it! I really think it is worth doing! Honestly, my old paperback copy is so battered after all these years, I read it very infrequently now and haven't for a number of years. I've been hoping for some kind of reprint before it falls apart entirely. So I don't remember who killed Captain Billy. But it's been on my mind to read it again and when I do, will try to remember to come back here and post.

Hi Cynthia, and welcome to the message board. Thanks so much for the tip on making Sinbad an eBook. The company which published my Mystery for Thoreau, a posthumous Kin Platt historical novel, a couple of years ago, contacted us just last week to see if we would permit them to publish it as an eBook -- of course we will say yes. And that got me looking into the idea of taking the older Kin Platt books and doing the same with them. By the way, can you remember offhand who killed Captain Billy? One of our other guests here asked the question awhile ago and I haven't had the chance to re-read Sinbad to get her the answer.

Hi Chris, Count me in as a "Sinbad and Me" fan. I purchased the paperback WAY back when I was in grade school, from a Bookmobile that came around. Now I'm 53! I loved the story so much that I still HAVE that paperback, though somewhat battered from many re-reads. Anyway, I've known for several years that the book is nearly impossible to get and I guess the issue is publishing? What I am wondering, is have you considered publishing the book in EBOOK (EPUB) format? You'd need someone to scan and OCR the text or have someone type the text so it is in digital form, but once that is done, you could publish it yourself. You might could find someone online who'd be willing to help. There are people for instance on MobileReadDOTcom who are producing nicely formatted ebooks from public domain classics. There are also authors there and I'm sure you could find suggestions and help in getting this project going! With so many people, especially in my age bracket, getting e-readers, this could be a nice way to reprint the whole series and also make them available to a new audience. I'd happily buy an EPUB copy for my Barnes & Noble Nook... and I bet many others would too! Further, many folks are now buying e-readers for their children, so a whole new generation could be introduced to the story! I really think this is a route worth looking into for your family!

Hi Barbara, Glad you could get a copy of the paperback version. I've never read the paperback version so I am wondering if it is an abridged text -- maybe they cut out who killed Capt. Billy? Note to Krissie, Angie, Mark, Derrick, and Douglas: Do any of you know who killed Capt. Billy? If so, please let us (and Barbara) know. Thank you!

I bought a copy of Sinbad and Me last month on ebay, the Tempo paperback with the original Geer cover art, in acceptable condition, for $33 plus $4.00 shipping. That's the absolute cheapest I could find anywhere, with the Geer cover. But I STILL don't know who killed the Captain!!!

Hi Krissie, and welcome to the message board. We are always hopeful that a smart legacy publisher will find the idea of publishing the Sinbad trilogy -- plus the Blue Man prequel -- to be desirable. Sadly, today's publishing world is a far different place than the one my father operated in. Meanwhile, if you go online and search for Sinbad and Me, there are copies for sale, although they of course cost way more than the original did in 1966 ($4.50!). You may not want to wait for a new edition.

Hi! My sister and I read Kin Platts Sindbad and Me as kids back in the early 70s and LOOOVED it. Our libraries copy has disappeared and ... sad face... now we have our own kids and want them to read the series. Will these books ever be republished? thanks!

Hi Barbara, and welcome to the Kin Platt message board. OK, that's a real challenge. To all of you who have posted concerning your affection for the Sinbad series, now's your chance to display your familiarity with the book and its plot lines. Please help Barbara find out who killed Captain Billy. Ten tell her about the other two books in the Sinbad trilogy. Thank you all.
