Re-reading Lady of Hay - this was the first one to get me into Barbara's novels and I love them all! A few weeks ago I picked up 'Shadows and Strongholds' by Elizabeth Chadwick and her writing style reminded me strongly of Barbara Erskine. Yeah - even more novels to get lost in!

I couldn't put this book down,it is absolutely brilliant. I felt as if I was being transported there myself. I hope to read more of her books.
Egypt is certainly the place to write about.It is mystic even today.

Hi all. Who would love to see any of the books made into movies (although the books are always better) I would love to see Edge of Darkness - Brid was very scary!!! Who would you like to see as the major characters? The child of the phoenix and Kingdom of Shadows and Lady of Hay would be great as they are historical.

I LOVE Barbara Erskine but have been unable to buy any of her books on CD. I drive long distances and would love to LISTEN to Lady of Hay particularly. I have all her books and eagerly await the arrival of the new one in the UK. I've seen it on cassette but I haven't a player in the car!

Hi Sandra! Don't you love it when the characters are that well developed? Both husbands in Kingdom of Shadows-- GGGRRR!!! I wanted Clare to find out what Paul was doing to her. I liked the way Isobel got back at her husband with Robert the Bruce. Don't want to give away too much for those who haven't read! I found a good copy of Child of the Phoenix on E-bay. Will take up to 8 weeks to get here. Just started House of Dreams by Brenda Joyce. It has potential -- set in modern time with past Spanish and English aristocracy, ghosts, star- and time-crossed lovers, etc. Enjoy Lady of Hay! Have a good weekend! Ivy

hi all. i'm trying to decide which book is my favourite. It's so difficult to choose because they are all fantastic and unputdownable!!!! I wasn't as keen on the short stories. I prefer the novels. House of echoes was the first one I read. I loved Hiding from the Light. Cant wait for Daughters of Fire. Does anyone know why it's taking so long?? Have a good weekend all

Hi All.
My all time favourite is Child of the Phoenix, loved her portrayal of Llywelyn, next week I am off to North Wales and each time I visit the sites from the book (3rd time this year! I love it). In Kingdom of Shadows didn't you all fall in love with Robert the Bruce and his modern counterpart of course! She's a brilliant writer isn't she? I know she has a cottage close to Hay as my friend lives in Hereford, and visited her booksigning at the Hay Festival a couple of years ago, she's a very nice lady.
I am also a huge fan of Sharon Penman and Edith Pargetter (Ellis Peters).

Hi Rea just has a serch for you and if you go onto google and put in Hay Hereford then go to images it even has pictures of the ols castle that Matilda
lady of hay built, you realy should go even if its just to visit the book shops but the whole place is magic

Kingdom of shadows was marvellous - wasnt Isobel's husband Paul an evil, ruthless swine? Found my blood boiling at times. Great book. I'm now on to Lady of Hay, only just started it, then I think I will try Diana Gabaldon. She seems to get good reviews. If anyone knows of any other good authors please tell!
