My name is Beverly Quinn...my daughtor just up and left Friday the fifth/2010...to go meet a man in Egypt that she has been talking to over the internet for about a year or go. She is head over heals in love with this guy. But never met him..never met friends or family. Says that she spoke to them and they are all nice...you cant..you cant believe anyone over the internet...you dont know what is going to happen...what they are luring you into. From notes i found a few months ago..she was to marry this man in Egypt...right away..but she says that she wanted to get to know him better..have me, her mother and father come and meet them and see the marriage...that she did not want to wear the veils and such..but that is what he WANTED her to do...he DEMANDS that she does that.
Oh God...I am so scared...I am taking medication because i am having such anxiety attacks...
I talked to the police who said they will not put in a missing persons report because she left a nice note behind...that she loves me...she is so so sorry...and she will be back...BUT HOW DO I KNOW THIS...ANYTHING COULD HAPPEN ONCE OVER THERE... She may want to come back but they may not let her...
Please...Please Please..contact me with help..with what i can do..she is 19...and yes has every right to do this...but this is a man over the internet....who knows what is going on, who he is..what he is about...what he is going to do with her...maybe it is love and all will be well..but she has not contacted me at all since leaving...
What am i to do..PLEASE HELP...and this is true..im not joking...this is very serious...
I NEED HELP...i dont want to wait months or years before i hear from her...or hear that she is dead somewhere...
OH GOD PLEASE HELP !!!

@Saddened ~ What IS extremely ignorant is to make such statement with no reasoning or explanation behind it. But we all know about opinions ...
To all who have lost their children in similar situations, God bless and keep them safe until they come home to you. Best wishes.

I have no doubt at all re Betty's story. I went to Iran for a holiday in 1978 with my boyfriend at the time - an Iranian. We stayed with his family, and from the moment we arrived, he changed from a gentle, caring person, into an overbearing, possessive chauvinist, who wouldn't let me go anywhere without a chaperone. Thanks goodness I never married him or had a child - I went home early after two months, and never looked back. It became really boring there as well - too many restrictions on what a single woman is allowed to do. Iran is such a backward and old fashioned society - still in the Dark Ages. Beats me why anyone would ever want to go there.

I was reading thru the posting and As somone stated it can happen anywhere. I went thru the same identical situation for 7months from the abuse to starvations as well as the pressure of attempting to keep my two sons from having to suffer and work at their fathers poo/Bar while attempting to escape fortunately I had family which did what they could in the US and as citizens worked both with the American Embassey to help us escape. I would so much like to share my story and help others in similar situations.

Does anyone have Betty's contact information? My daughter had her children abducted in Germany (140+) days ago by an abusive husband with the aid and help of the German Government. We need help!

I once again saw the movie and I always am amazed at Betty's fortitude.
I know there is always two sides to every story, but I lived for over 10 years with a husband who was physically violent and to hear him tell it he never laid a hand on me in violence, despite the medical records of my injuries. No person ever wants to admit they are a violent lunatic. Most serial killers think they are decent human beings.
I have often thought about Betty's experience and it has made me cautious of the men I choose to get into a relationship with. Betty's story has probably saved a lot of women. Thanks Betty!

Many of you sound extremely ignorant.

Nicole, I couldn't agree with you more, which is why I did take the time to research both sides of this story. I not only read Betty Mahmoody's book and saw the movie based on her book, but I've read and listened to Seyyed Mahmoody's account as well.
That still does not take away from the fact that I LIVED through a very similar experience myself nearly 14 years before the one described by Betty. So when she alleges that "Moody's" entire personality changed once he was again surrounded by his Iranian family, I believe her. When she describes how he suddenly turned against anything having to do with American culture, I believe her. When she states she was held captive and not allowed to leave the home without permission and supervision, I believe her. And when she claims she was physically reprimanded for disobedience to Moody's whims, I believe her. Why? Because it happened to me along with too many more incidents to write about here. The biggest difference was that my ordeal took place in Norfolk, Virginia in between 1974 and 1978. I can only imagine how terrible it might have been had I agreed to accompany my ex-husband back to Iran. And for the record, I had several other American friends also married to Iranian men that endured some of these same hardships.
Yes, I'm well aware of Seyyed Mahmoody's own account of what happened. But I have a third perspective, and thank you, I'll at least believe my own story. Betty simply gave an affirmation to my own truth.

My heart reaches out to all you women. I very much understand that trials of hardship, very many of which I have experienced myself. However, I do pose the question to everyone defending Betty Mahmoody. I am NOT saying that there isnt any truth comming from her lips to our ears, But I really do wonder how many people have researched both sides of the story. You all have seen the movie "Not Without my Daughter" by Betty Mahmoody, how about watching the documentary "Without my Daughter" by Seyyed Mahmoody". youtube it or whatever. I believe that there are two sides to every story; you have what he said, what she said, and than you have the truth. So those of you who have put the effort and have the common sense to know that with two people you have three stories thank you for not being ignorant, and being open minded enough to come up with your own conclusion based on the facts in your own research. To all of you other ignorant people, I hear they have a story about a purple elephant with pink pokedots on tv too, why dont yall go ahead and start believing that too, after all it was on tv. Give both sides equal weight before developing a bad opinion about whatever.
