Read Hungry as the Sea again for a change from the Courtneys. One of his earlier one-offs another beauty. you get an insight into the surprisingly exciting world of sea salvage- the drama, action, hero vs villain who stole wife but a story not in the usual blood and guts way but just as intense- make for an excellent movie too.

Came across this book at a library sale. The author is Wilbur Smith.
Is this "our" Wilbur Smith? He makes no mention of it anywhere, almost as if he has disavowed it or something.
It was apparently made into a British movie called "The Mercenaries" in the '60s.
Anyone know anything about this?

I read "river god" and loved it. it was my first WS book, could anyone let me know the next that I should pick up after "river god"? thanks.

I just finished River God and I was completely blown away by it. It was my first WS book, and I definitely intend to finish the series. But I was really troubled by the author's note. The note leads the reader to believe that the story is mostly true, taken from scrolls found in a tomb and translated into a book. I couldn't believe this and ten minutes on the web and I confirmed my suspicions...it's actually not true. Sort of a let-down, because that really would have been amazing. I really loved the book, but why would WS mislead readers like that? What did anybody else think of the Author's Note?

Kate, the next book to read is A Sparrow Falls, it takes place after The Sound of Thunder, and concludes the first Courtney sequence

Yep Sunbird was cool alright. Seem to be just wandering round his novels now until the next one. Just read A Sparrow falls again. Thats the sort of good vs evil story Wilburs good at too. Dirk vs Sean and Mark Anders made a ripping yarn. I actually first came across Sean in Burning shore- my first wilbur and even then you could sense there was more about him as I later found out. Cool

"Eagle In The Sky" the story is about wealthy playboy who falls in love with a young Israeli woman, Emigrates and becomes a top pilot in the Israeli Air Force, then plot shifts...
